Science Grades

In the Science Gradebook, you will see these categories:
  • The “Labs/Science Notebooks” category refers to student completion of practice assignments. Each assignment entered will show up as 1 out of 1 points. I may mark these with a 4-3-2-1 scale or with other feedback for my students so that they can learn how they can do better and monitor their own growth. But the assignment will appear as a 1 in the gradebook to show that they have satisfactorily completed it. This category carries 30% of the weight in calculating the gradebook’s estimated letter grade.

  • The “Learning Targets” category refers to summative assessments (tests or quizzes) related to the learning targets, or to assignments/projects that provide enough information to assess a student’s level of understanding. These will appear with a 4-3-2-1 scale score. They carry 70% of the weight in calculating the gradebook’s estimated letter grade.

  • Students with a 1 or a 2 for a Learning Target assignment are expected to get some extra help or do some extra learning so that they can re-assess in these learning targets and perform better. They may be pulled in for math during extended learning. Students who get a 3 can choose to revise their work and go for a 4.
