Calculated Estimated Grades
- This semester, a calculated grade will be visible to you so that you can estimate how your child is doing. Please understand that the displayed grade is an estimate. With standards-based grading, newer assessments of a learning target are more valuable than older ones. But our gradebook program averages these things together. On the downside, an estimated grade will be a little erratic in the beginning of the semester as scores are entered. Then it will stabilize. The gradebook will use the following scale for estimating a letter grade:
- A+ N/A A ≥ 92.5% A- ≥ 87.5%
- B+ ≥ 82.5% B ≥ 72.5% B- ≥ 67.5%
- C+ ≥ 62.5% C ≥ 55.0% C- ≥ 50.0%
- D+ ≥ 45.0% D ≥ 45.0% D- N/A
- F ≥ 0.0%
- Notice that our gradebook program does not support grades of A+ of of D-. Strangely, they’re just not a feature in the software.
- Why the weird scale? Why not 90% for the A-range, 80% for the B range, etc.? Well, with a scoring system of 4-3-2 or 1, a 4/4 would be 100%. But a 3/4 is only 75%! Since a 3 means “proficient”, we use a grade scale that assigns B’s to proficient students.
